Afridge door without shopping lists, children's paintings and suchlike is like toast without butter or Morecambe without Wise – it just isn't right! These peg magnets are so quick to make you can easily whip up several in just a few hours, and they can be easily updated if you fancy a change of look. We've chosen a classic floral print to give our pegs a springlike feel, but you could always use leftover kitchen wallpaper to suit the style of your home. You could also use the pegs to hold family snaps for a cute, personal touch.

How to make the pegs

1 Apply a thin coat of PVA glue to one side of the peg, then stick it to the paper and leave to dry.

2 Trim around the edge of the peg using a craft knife, then cut away the area over the wire. This should be easy if you've let the glue dry completely – if you trim when the glue is still wet, then the paper is likely to tear.

3 Give the peg and paper a coat of varnish, being careful not to varnish over the metal wire. Leave to dry.

4 Use extra strong glue to attach a magnet to the back of each peg.
