You will need ● Nine sheets of 50 x 70cm tissue paper ● Double-sided tape ● Four sheets of plain paper ● Sticky tape ● Sewing thread and needle ● Scissors ● Template

Place the nine sheets of tissue paper in a pile. Fold the paper pile in half, then half again to get 36 layers of 25 x 35cm pieces. This will make three poms.

Cut through all the papers at each of the folds to get 36 sheets. Now it’s time to tape all the sheets to make the honeycomb paper. Use the template on yourhomestyle.uk to make this easier.

Put the first sheet of tissue paper between the four corners on the template and stick double-sided tape between each point A. Place the next sheet of tissue paper on top of the first. This time tape between each point B. Continue with all 36 sheets, taping every other sheet between the As, and the other between the Bs.

Once you’ve finished all 36 sheets it’s time to make the poms. From plain paper (printer paper is fine), cut a half circle template 18cm wide and three whole circles 17cm wide. Place the half circle template on top of your pile of honeycomb tissue paper and draw around it three times, making sure your template is placed in the same direction each time. Cut out the three semi-circles of honeycomb tissue paper.

Now fold one of the 17cm circle templates in half and place one of the tissue paper semi-circles in the centre of the fold, lining up the straight edge. Tape the top layer of the tissue paper to the inside of the paper circle then turn over and repeat so that your tissue paper is secured inside the folded paper circle.

Thread the needle and push it through all the layers of paper in the bottom corner of the semi-circle. Tie a knot about 1-2cm on the thread otherwise the pompom won’t open. Cut the thread. Do the same with the top corner, but don’t cut the thread – save it for hanging.

Now you’re ready to open up your pompom. Put double-sided tape on one half of the plain paper circle, then open it so that the two sides face each other and stick them together to form a sphere. Now repeat steps 5-7 to make your two remaining poms.
