HOW TO... Create a Crittall- style shower screen

Buy a plain clear glass shower screen that fits exactly into the space along the bath. Check how much splashing there will be from the shower so you can work out how wide you need it to be to contain all the water.

Decide how big you’d like your squares on the frame to be. Look at the luxury screens online with the built-in metal grids for an idea on what you’re aiming for, but the upside of doing it yourself means you can choose whether to go small or large.

Buy some good quality black vinyl tape from a DIY store, but before you start applying it, measure everything out in black felt pen so you can get a feeling for the look. If your squares don’t divide exactly, decide whether you want an unequal one at the top or the bottom.

Once you’re confident with the squares, you can then apply the tape, smoothing out any wrinkles. Keep it to the outside of the screen, which won’t get wet, for extra protection and longevity.
