HOW TO WORK THIS LOOK

-

l This look uses texture instead of pattern to create a layered scheme that’s full of depth. Modern printing techniques mean it’s easy to find flooring and wallpaper covered with textured patterns that feel authentically random.

l If you don’t fancy papering, you can reproduce the distressed look yourself. Sponge or dry-brush on a shade that’s slightly lighter than your wall colour. Add in a darker tone too for a more deeply textured effect.

l Look out for warm, nearly orange, pinks to blend into the mustard yellows. Balance out these hues with shades of grey. Brass and aged gold metallics will give this scheme a gentle glow.

l Velvet fabrics complement this look, as the pile reflects light. Crushed or textured velvets throw the light in different directions, creating a soft pattern that will subtly co-ordinate with the textured walls or floors.
