You will need

● Sticky-back plastic ● Side plates ● Paintbrushes ● Acrylic paint ● Sticky tape ● Gold or silver leaf ● Nail varnish remover ● Small circular craft mirrors ● Matt spray varnish ● Superglue ● Picture hanging strips

1 For the leopard-print plate, attach a strip of tape across the centre of a plate. Paint one half of the plate pink. Leave to dry then paint another layer. Once dry, splatter white paint on top. Remove the strip of tape. With the black paint, apply different shapes in random sizes to create a leopard-print effect. Paint multiple layers of the black for complete coverage. Before the paint fully dries, add small flecks of gold and silver leaf to the black shapes, being careful not to smudge the paint. The foil will stay put once the paint is dry.

2 For the confetti plate, choose four paint colours you’ll use on all your plates to ensure a cohesive look for the set. Paint small wiggly lines in the first colour, spacing them out across the plate, then add chunky dashes in a second colour in the gaps in between and leave to dry. Add larger spots in a third colour, then add smaller dots in the fourth colour. Keep going until you’re happy with the design, then leave to dry.

3 For the terrazzo design, cut out a sheet of sticky-back plastic roughly the same size as the plate. From this, cut out different shapes and sizes to make a stencil. Stick the stencil to the plate, smoothing out any air bubbles. Paint a few of the shapes in a solid colour. Use the main image as a guide or create your own design. Paint as many layers as it takes for the colour to be opaque, leaving the paint to dry in between layers. Splatter black paint onto one or two of the empty shapes. Create an ombré effect in another of the shapes by gradually adding drops of white paint to one of the colours. Fill in the stencil shape by painting these three shades in strips, gently overlapping and mixing the paint as you go to create a gradient effect. Once the paint has dried, remove the sticky-back plastic.

4 Once the plates are dry, spray each one with matt spray varnish to seal the design. Leave to dry, then superglue a mirror onto each plate. Stick the picture hanging strips to the reverse of each plate to hang on the wall.
