You will need

● Wooden drawers or cupboard ● Sandpaper ● Black satinwood paint ● Paintbrush ● Gilding paste ● Gold leaf sheets ● Soft dry paintbrush

1First, prepare the unit. Sand the surface to remove any varnish or paint and clean with a dry cloth. 2

Apply a coat of black satinwood paint and leave to dry. Repeat with a second coat and again, leave to dry.

3Apply a thin layer of gilding paste over the fronts of the drawers or doors with random brushstrokes. Allow to go tacky for 20-30 minutes, then carefully apply the gold leaf with your fingers. Leave to dry.

4Using a soft dry brush, smooth out any wrinkles that might have developed and remove the excess gold leaf.
