Wren created a kitchen that’s practically perfect in every way

Natasha and Stephen wanted a family-friendly space that blended practicality with bespoke, crafted design

As the heart of the home, the kitchen serves so many other uses than simply cooking and eating – not only is it a multipurpose space for socialising with friends and family but also a home office and classroom for many of us. Expert designers at Wren Kitchens understand that everyone’s lifestyle is different, so their kitchens need to function differently to reflect this. No matter the size or layout of your kitchen, Wren will work closely with you to create a tailor-made design that suits your family’s lifestyle.

AFFORDABLE OPTION

When Natasha and Stephen extended their 1980s detached home in Pegwell Bay, Kent, they replaced their old conservatory and enlarged their kitchen. ‘Before, we had a pokey, galley-style kitchen,’ says Natasha. ‘We knew we wanted to replace it once the extension was finished, but we were really watching the pennies.’ Sticking to their budget was high on the couple’s priorities, so they shopped around extensively for the best price, before friends recommended Wren Kitchens to them. ‘What we liked about Wren first was that they could do what we wanted for the cheapest price,’ recalls Natasha, ‘we felt like we were getting a bargain.’

DESIGNER SHOWROOM

The couple visited their local Wren Kitchens showroom and were immediately impressed with the children’s zone. ‘We were shopping with our children, Anna and James, so the fact we could leave them playing while we discussed our kitchen plans was great,’ says Natasha. ‘When Wren got the snacks out, the kids were blown away!’

Working with Josh, their Wren Designer, Natasha and Stephen created a practical, safe and spacious kitchen with storage for a growing family’s needs, including a six-shelf pantry tower. ‘Josh really knew his stuff when it came to planning on a budget. He designed the kitchen in 3D, and we used the Virtual Reality headsets to see the layout, which was so useful,’ explains Natasha. ‘We initially wanted handleless cabinets, but fell in love with the Infinity Shaker units in Lava. They land the designer look we were after, while being a good colour to have with messy children!’ The couple chose an island with an Aspen Ice Quartz worktop and composite Rock Grey sink to complement the Shaker Lava Matt cupboards.

FINISHING TOUCHES

Wren’s customer service and the delivery were both standouts to Natasha. ‘We needed to make a late change to the quartz, and Wren did it without charging any extra! The delivery of everything was seamless, too,,’ she recalls. ‘Once the fully made units were delivered, all Stephen had to do was attach the legs.’

Safety was a top priority for the couple, so they opted for a Bosch four-zone induction hob to go with their Bosch single oven and a fully integrated Neff dishwasher.

Their kitchen was installed just before the first lockdown of 2020. ‘It became the classroom for Anna and James and the hub for my family; it’s been an absolute godsend. Previously we were using our old kitchen space about ten per cent of the time. Now we’re always in here – socialising with friends or relaxing with the kids,’ smiles Natasha.
