‘I didn’t have to paint the living room, as the walls were clean and looked fine. My dining table sits well at the end, in front of the garden doors and there were brackets already in place on the wall for the TV, so the layout fell into place from there. We only had space for one sofa and I’d ideally like a bit more seating, but we’d have to move the table into the kitchen, which I’m not keen to do. I chose the sofa and footstool for the room and built the scheme around them. It’s all about the accessories in here. I’ve got throws, rugs, cushions, and lots of different shapes and textures on the walls. I’m always switching things around to refresh the look.’

Emily took a gamble, buying her sofa just from looking at pictures, as she couldn’t try it out in store due to lockdown. ‘I’m so pleased with it,’ she says. ‘It’s super-comfy and I love the wooden arms and legs’
Smart internal wooden doors were another appealing feature of the house. The double set leading into the sitting room gives a sense of presence and the glass helps spread light into the hall. The rattan chair was a Facebook Marketplace find
The hall, stairs and landing were redecorated with Dulux’s Egyptian Cotton, which lightened up the space. Emily found her shoe cupboard on eBay and her unusual Stay Awhile peg rail is from Nelmwood Designs
