‘I painted the marble fireplace black, but my love of rich colour is fairly obvious. I knew I wanted to combine two bold colours with a three-quarters blocking effect on the fireplace wall, and although it might look a bit random, all my designs are thought through really carefully. It was difficult to find the deep pink that I wanted, so I colour-matched a tassel I had hanging off the door and it perfectly complements this After Hours paint from Wilko. I decided to do the decorating myself and even though I was doing it until midnight after the kids were in bed, I really enjoyed it. To be honest, I can’t imagine ever paying for a decorator again.’

‘I found the legs on Facebook Marketplace and sprayed them black – I’ve also got some in the hallway that I painted gold. They’re just a bit of fun but great as alternative plant pots. The sofa is from DFS and the gold mirror is from TK Maxx’

‘I love the way the shadows play on the wall-relief and allow it to stand out, and the gorgeous, bright-pink velvet sofa from DFS really sings against the blue. The fun Audrey picture is from our local mill shop and I just topped the side table with a piece of fake fur’
