OUR DREAM KITCHEN
Laura Hall spent four years saving up for her new kitchen, before decorating with contrasting patterns, pops of colour and retro details
I’m Laura Hall, a finance and operations manager for a theatre company. I live with my husband, Graham, a software developer, and our two boys, Benjamin, four, and Rory, two. Our home is a three-bedroom, 1930s end terrace in Woolton, Liverpool. We bought the house in October 2015, and I post interior updates on Instagram @thehexagonalhouse.
My room... MY PROBLEM KITCHEN
The original kitchen was an odd, angular-shaped room with brown ’90s-style units. I initially painted the cabinets grey and the tiles white, but no amount of paint could cover the years of neglect.
HOW I MADE IT WORK
We decided to extend to create an open-plan kitchen-diner to make room for my longed-for big kitchen table. Although we chose classic Shaker cabinets, I added bold touches of colour, pattern and vintage furniture to give the space a unique feel.
MY FAVOURITE PART
I love the exposed beam, which gives the space an added quirkiness. I also love our massive kitchen table that really has become the heart of the home.
