Living room

-

‘With soaking wet wallpaper on the bottom half of the room and a massive hole in the middle of the floorboards, the living room didn’t have much going for it apart from the wood-burner. I really wanted to sand the floorboards, but they were too badly damaged and our neighbours said theirs were really draughty, which put us off a bit. In the end we decided to continue the same laminate flooring through from the kitchen. We saw the green sofa a few years ago on MADE.com, and it was the first thing we bought when our offer was accepted on the house. I don’t think I initially envisaged a mauve pink living room, but when we got the rug and green sofa I thought it would tie everything together. Jack wasn’t completely convinced at first, but he loves it now. We changed the layout so that the two sofas face each other and that works much better. It’s now a really happy, calming space.’

‘Even though the house was damp, smelly and horrible, we fell in love with the views over fields from both sides’

‘It’s worth spending more on the key features in each room, like tiles and lighting, but saving money by finding accessories in charity shops’

Paint alcove shelving the same shade as the walls to make accessories stand out ‘One of the few things we brought from our flat were the posters, as I’m a massive Disney fan,’ says Meg. ‘I hadn’t planned on putting them in here, but when Jack put them up, they really worked with the walls painted in Valspar’s Cherry Caramel, the French Connection rug and the green sofa. The drinks trolley is from a Sue Ryder charity shop, while the coffee table and orange vase are both from Oliver Bonas
