EXPERT ADVICE

-

Emmie Brookman, Interiors Expert and Creative Director at Silver Mushroom has this sage advice for creating a warm and welcoming hallway

‘We are all familiar with the saying “first impressions count” and a hallway is no different! Often hallways are the most neglected room in our homes because they lack natural light and tend to be on the smaller side. Adding a large mirror is one way to create the illusion of a larger space, and it also reflects any natural light coming in. Adding a statement doormat gives a welcoming first impression and is a practical choice as they trap the dirt before you step into your home. Choose a doormat with a cute saying to make people think fondly of your home before they even cross the threshold. Hallways are there to be used, thinking about the practicality of storing your items is important. Console tables are great as they’re thin and handy for popping keys and post on. This can then be decorated with a vase and some flowers to brighten it up.’
