MY EXPERIENCE

-

When we moved into our home in 2011 we inherited a bland and boring hallway. We painted the space grey shortly after moving in, but it didn’t reflect my love of colour and bold prints.

During lockdown last year, our hallway really started to annoy me. I love bright and cheerful colours and my two girls love pink. So, we decided to paint the space fuchsia, including the stairs and wall panelling for a dramatic transformation. The rest of the walls were painted white so my fun artwork could stand out.

I love the way gold glimmers in the light and adds a real wow factor to a room. I’d never tried gilding before but after watching YouTube tutorials I gave it a go on the stairs. It was easy to do and I love the end result, but it took patience and it’s a messy job!

Above the door frame, I fixed grass panels that I found on eBay and added leaves from Hobbycraft. To make it a bit ‘extra’, I added neon lights. To complement my fake plant wall, I hung a jungle wallpaper from Lust Home on the landing. Next, I tackled our utility cupboard. Kyle made shelving and a countertop from scaffold boards and I created a feature wall using leftover wallpaper.

I love our hallway now. It makes me so happy every time I step through our front door, and we now have a space that matches the rest of our colourful home.
