BUYER’S GUIDE

Jemma Dayman, Carpets and Rugs Buyer for Carpetright, gives us her advice on choosing and caring for carpets…

● Twist and textured carpets are ideal for high-traffic areas such as stairs because they offer comfort yet are hard-wearing. When it comes to living areas, carpet provides increased warmth and sound-proofing, so softer carpets, such as Saxony styles, are a good choice, particularly in bedrooms.

● It’s always worth investing in new underlay because it helps create a softer feel underfoot. By acting as a shock absorber it protects flooring from daily wear and tear and the extra padding will help to insulate, saving you money on the heating bill.

● All carpets will naturally attract dirt and oil, so consider professional cleans once every two years. For home cleaning, an upright cleaner with an active beater bar, which will help loosen and lift soil, works well for cut pile carpets, whereas loop piles are best maintained using a suction cleaner.
