Vicky’s top tip:

SUSTAINABLE SORT OUT

-

It’s very satisfying filling the boxes and getting rid of the rubbish, but don’t forget that everything you merrily chuck into the ‘bin it’ box is going straight into landfill. To help reduce waste and protect our planet, reconsider every item you place in the bin box and aim to repurpose wherever you can.

‘Remember, any clothing items you no longer want to wear, someone else will, so try friends, family and charity,’ says Vicky. ‘Many charity shops will even take unsellable clothes as they can receive money for rags. Research local bra banks and refugee collections too. H&M runs a garment collection service where you can receive a store discount card for textiles you donate.

‘Books shouldn’t go in the bin either,’ she continues. ‘Call your local care homes to find out if their libraries need refreshing, and try second-hand bookstores and charity shops. When you clear out the kitchen cupboards don’t throw away edible food – local food banks will take any food that’s still in date. Put any out-of-date food in your compost bin for collection.’
