‘It was Matt’s idea to make a feature of the exposed beam by painting it black. It breaks up the white walls and adds a bit of industrial design. We complemented it with the black cooker hood and oven, and then chose metal shelf brackets for the scaffold boards to add to the look. Choosing the glass pendant lights, with the fixings on show, was the finishing touch.’
