Three simple tricks to try in your own home
TRY WALLPAPERING
A beautiful floral wallpaper by Sian Zeng adds a botanical, magical feel. ‘I was proud to have hung the wallpaper myself during lockdown,’ says Nicki. ‘It was my first-ever attempt at wallpapering and I was worried I’d mess it up and not do it justice. Luckily, the paper is super thick and incredible quality, plus it’s ‘paste the wall’ wallpaper, which is much easier to work with. I used pink wallpaper paste, too, so I could see where I’d put it. It wasn’t half as tricky as I thought it would be and we’re so happy with the final results.’
THINK AHEAD
Include furniture that allows room for your child to grow, such as this desk space, which could become a dressing table for Bo as she gets older. Originally a birch-ply bookcase, an extended shelf was added to create the desktop, which Bo uses for her typewriter and stationery stash, while the Klara office chair from Home Essentials provides a comfy seat and was one of Nicki’s best buys. ‘It’s such good value and fits in to the space beautifully,’ she says.
MAKE IT COSY
To give Bo the feeling of being somewhere ‘secret’, the bed has curtains that instantly turn it into a private hideaway, but a canopy would also have the same effect. ‘At night we close the curtains and read together, snuggling in Bo’s favourite new supersoft fleece bedding set. It’s so cosy,’ says Nicki. ‘Ask your child how they want their bedroom to feel, rather than how it should look – this is the result you’re after.’
