MY EXPERIENCE

-

As our family has grown, so has our house, with various renovations taking place over the years. After changing our layout upstairs, we created a larger bedroom for my daughter, Bo. Initially we left her new room fairly plain, but when lockdown came along, I decided the time was right to decorate properly and we went for itfl

She might be young, but Bo had some firm ideas about what she wanted for her room and asked for a ‘fairy secret garden bedroom’. As an interior designer, I knew that her bedroom didn’t have to be bright pink, glittery and covered in fairy decals to create the feel she wanted, so we made a moodboard, choosing pictures and picking out ideas that we could work into her new room.

I’d promised Bo wallpaper in her bedroom for a long time, so with her request for something ‘pretty’ I showed her several floral wallpapers and she chose one with hand-painted flowers that look as though they’re spilling over the top of the walls. Then we used tiny pinhead fairy lights tacked to the wallpaper among the flowers, so it looks like hundreds of magical fairies at night, which she loves.

A key part of the design was about creating more storage, so I designed a bespoke bed with secret cupboards and a hidden but accessible bookcase. It helps keep the room tidy as well as giving Bo a super-cool bed she can snuggle up in. Plus, I used tons of accessories from Home Essentials, including some lovely rattan storage baskets.

Working together with Bo to make her dream bedroom come to life filled me with pride and it’s even better than we hoped.

We’ve designed every inch of her dream bedroom together and we couldn’t be happier with the results.
