Through the Looking glass

The trend for retro-style steel windows, doors and screens is hot right now and Crittall says it’s time to play with shape and colour

-

Interior designers and décor influencers say retro naturalistic greens, bright colours, sky-blues, purple hues, vibrant yellows and sultry black will make up the colour palette this year. The trend is for homeowners to be more adventurous with the shape of windows and door styles too. As the ‘eyes’ of the home they can highlight individuality and bring a distinct style.

SHAPE UP

Curves and rounded shapes are back, while authenticity and hand-crafted products are buzz words. So, if you’re considering a new look for a window, external door or internal screen they don’t have to be rectangular in shape, or in white or black.

On trend are steel-framed windows and external doors with arches and glorious curves. Think outside the boxfl You may want to make a style statement or maximise the view with a sweeping panoramic-style window, or bring the outside in. Whatever you’re looking for, Crittall has the solutionfl

Echo the past with Gothic, heritage-style oriel bay or bow windows, ‘bulls-eye’ panes and roundels. Or capture the essence of the 1920s with an Art Deco porthole style; or even diamond-shape steel windows.

Internally, consider a dramatic steel screen set with differently sized, colour-glass panes. Opt for reds, greens or blues in clear, opaque, or textured effect and choose from squares or rectangles to create a stylish talking point. For elegance, introduce a brightly coloured glass motif, such as a flower, to an interior or external porthole window.

SHOW YOUR COLOURS

Russell Ager, Managing Director at Crittall Windows, pioneers of steel frame window manufacture for 170 years, says:

‘You can colour-match almost everything – décor, furnishings, appliances – even your window frames, both inside and out.

‘With the modern take on the “retro look” now a trend, steel windows are enjoying a resurgence in popularity. Adding that savvy splash of colour will ensure a big wow factor.

‘A wide choice of 46 standard – as well as custom-made – colours meet individual needs. There’s also a dual colour option. Try a bold or a darker colour on the outside and a neutral/white finish on the inside to match or blend-in with the interior décor. All are available in a wide range of shades.

‘Crittall’s legacy of shaping and influencing design and its heritage of delivering excellence can be seen worldwide. We have our imitators, but the style and quality of authentic Crittall products are never matched. Tailor-made to meet almost any individual requirement – shape or colour – steel windows, doors and Innervision screens are designed and fabricated to last a lifetime.’

Every Crittall window, door and internal screen is made from high-grade, recycled steel and is hot-dip galvanized to be virtually maintenance free.
