Living room

‘Our previously beige living room is now an eclectic mix of desert vibes with the cowhide rug and cactus, blended with a floral theme through the prints and mirror. Changing the fireplace was the first step. I wanted something with a bit more grandeur and I found a wooden Victorian-style surround on Facebook Marketplace. To make it my own, I painted the surround white, the marble black and added tile-effect vinyl by Jes Rose on the hearth. Painting the wall behind in dark blue has made it stand out. I wanted a terracotta colour on the other walls but I was worried it might be too much combined with the blue. In the end I painted the bottom two thirds in Red 03 by Lick, with the top part in White 01 so it doesn’t overpower the space. I still felt something was missing so the last step was wallpapering the ceiling. A floral or busy pattern would have been too extravagant, but a stripe felt more subtle.’
