Three simple tricks to try in your own home ‘We had to dismantle the shed to get work done,’ says Aurélien. ‘As we were about to put it back up together, Fernando suggested turning it into a garden bar instead (needless to say, he didn’t need to twist my armfl). We added vertical batons to bring the roof higher on one side and then created a bar top with a piece of wood that’s held open with a chain. To finish, I created a faux tiled surface using stick-on decals from Wayfair. When guests arrive at any garden party it’s always a conversation starter and everyone gravitates towards it.’ Maximise your time outdoors by making it as comfortable as possible. ‘I’ve added some PVC sheets on top of our pergola to protect the seating from the rain so I can dress it like an indoor space with plenty of cushions, a throw and a rug, and not worry about it getting wet,’ says Aurélien. ‘I’ve also added a little shelf above the seating area where I display ornaments, just like I would in my living room. Putting solar-powered lights inside the ceiling pendant means that on warm evenings I can relax in there until late.’
