Being on a budget is great for creativity. I’ve had to think outside the box to get the look I want, but being patient means I haven’t had to compromise.

Always ask your landlord before doing any jobs that can’t be returned to the original state. In my opinion they often agree, because they also want their home to look good. If they say no, do some research, as there are so many temporary ideas available for renters nowadays that there is generally a solution for everything.

It’s worth making small investment­s in a rental property, such as sanding a floor or painting tiles.

It’s your home after all, and you want it to look good and be a place that you want to spend time in.
