SMALL WONDERS

-

Sapphire Hales, in-house designer at Futon Company gives us her top tips for rediscovering space in your home

When space is at a premium, it’s important to make the most of what’s available. There are many ways to maximise your space without knocking down walls or turning your home upside down. With careful planning and a bit of imagination, you can transform small nooks and crannies into functional areas for every-day needs.

Think smart with your furniture

Space-saving and multi-purpose furniture is key. One of our go-tos is leaning furniture, which utilises space on the wall while occupying little on the floor. It’s easily movable and hassle-free. Compact sofa beds are also ideal – they’re perfect for putting up overnight guests.

Choose flexible storage

Modular systems made up of multiple storage components work well in small homes. Stackable cubes provide superb flexibility as they can be stacked up, or down, to work around the space available.

Keep it clean and tidy

Decluttering and storing things away can instantly make your home feel lighter and larger. An organised space helps to prevent daily stress too.
