Three simple tricks to try in your own home

-

MAKE YOUR SPACE WORK

‘ Think about using up any awkward corners for storage. I wanted somewhere to put toilet rolls and I found the perfect trolley on MADE, which fits (to the centimetre) in the previously unused area between the toilet and the bath. It’s got three shelves, so I can also use it to display plants and bits and pieces I pick up. Plus, it’s in brushed brass, which ties in nicely with the bathroom fittings.’

ADD A TOUCH OF THE OLD

‘An easy way to bring in a retro look is with a vanity unit that incorporates an old piece of furniture. I found mine on Etsy and it uses an authentic piece of G Plan furniture. It was handy that it came with the holes drilled and the metal legs attached, but it would be an easy enough DIY. It’s something that could be done with any piece of furniture, if you ask a plumber’s advice. It also brings another element, wood, into the room, which I love.’

ADD INSERT SHELVING

‘If you’re starting from scratch and having all-new plumbing, it will probably mean a false wall, which is a great opportunity to ask your builder to add some recess shelving. It means you have all your toiletries to hand, instead of taking up space with a corner unit or having to bend down to pick them up from the floor. I tiled the walls inside with Hoxton tiles in Bottle Green from Mandarin Stone, which complement the luxe shower fittings.’

?? ?? ‘It’s such a relief to have a separate shower,’ says Joanna. ‘I made sure the black framed enclosure from Victorian Plumbing opened at the front, so it wasn’t awkward to step around the vanity unit.’

?? ?? ‘ The bath rack was given to me as a present a while ago, and I’ve been waiting to be able to use it,’ says Joanna. ‘I like the fact that it’s wood to tie in with the stool and vanity unit. To be able to lie in the bath and have a book propped up is a real luxury’
