MY EXPERIENCE

-

This bedroom was completely unusable when we bought the house. It had a hole in the ceiling that would leak every time it rained, and bits of the coving were missing. I wish I could say that’s where the chaos ended. We had to strip the room back to brick and start from scratch and then we found an active wasp nest. I’m sure that Lanre and my dad still have flashbacks of the stings that they received that dayfl

We plasterboarded the ceiling and walls with my dad’s help, then stripped the fireplace back to its original state and sanded the floorboards, which is one job I won’t be doing again in a hurry. I had an idea of how I wanted the space to look long before we started the work, however, the closer we got to finishing the room the more I noticed what I actually liked versus what I didn’t.

I found choosing the paint colour the hardest part – I think we collected around 50 paint samples from different companies before I finally settled on a very subtle green. One element I never doubted, though, was the built-in panelled wardrobe – the number one thing on my wish list. I thought it may be one of the tasks we called in a professional to do, but we ended up doing it ourselves, and I’m so glad we did as we learnt new DIY skills.

Now that the bedroom is complete, we can hide away in this room, close the door and forget that we live in a renovation site. It feels so good waking up in this bedroom every morning. We even sit on our bed in the evening sometimes to watch the sun set. We are both so proud of it.
