Three simple tricks to try in your own home

-

STYLISH STORAGE

Storage is the key to a tidy home, but it doesn’t need to be boring. This rattan sideboard adds to the boho look and provides extra space for books and knick-knacks – it could also be used as a drinks cabinet, storing your favourite tipple ready to celebrate over the Christmas period. ‘ This sideboard from MADE came in an oak wood and rattan finish, which is in keeping with the colours and style of the room and creates a handy surface for a table lamp and candles,’ says Emily. ‘I love my dried flower bouquet, which will last forever and is zero maintenance.’

CREATE A FOCAL POINT

Let your mantelpiece take centre stage with some real foliage branches or an artificial garland, like this one from Homebase. For maximum impact, create height with tall candlesticks and a vase of eucalyptus to fill the room with seasonal aromas. ‘We wanted the fireplace to be a welcoming focal point in the room,’ says Emily. ‘ The mirror makes the space feel bigger and I love how plants help bring our home to life, so we’ve added them in every nook.’ If your fireplace isn’t working, fill the hearth with fairylights for a soft glow, like Emily.

GET COSY

‘ The old room was so draughty, and it was really important to make the room feel warm and cosy. A large rug over the floorboards keeps the chills out and we made sure the window was fully repaired, ready for the cold winter months. Warm throws are very much the order of the day, so I have faux furs and sheepskins draped over the furniture and lots of cushions to ramp up the comfy feel. I also love to light candles and switch on the fairylights to make the space feel more homely.’
