HOUSE FORTESQUE
Drawing on inspiration from Scandinavia and New England, this contemporary home sits beautifully in its landscaped gardens
Built on a slope with unobstructed views over the Bristol Channel, the house appears to grow out of its surroundings. The house is situated in extensive landscaped gardens and is visible only from the sea.
The basement is constructed using yellow stone reminiscent of local dry stone walls. As you move to the ground and first floors via a light-flooded stairwell, the building moves from the traditional to the modern. Finished in a redwood and oyster white render, the upper floors bring out the modern architecture that is recognisably Baufritz. All rooms feature big windows that provide views of either the sea or surrounding woodlands. Long terraces, coupled with big glass doors, allow a seamless transition to the outside.
The basement accommodates a games room, plant room, storage space and a one bedroom flat for multi-generational living. On the ground floor the large sea-facing family sitting room and balcony form the house core. Adjoining dining and living areas such as a study, arts room, home cinema and storage room face the beautiful woodlands. The generous entrance area makes for a great light-filled living space.
On the first floor are the sleeping quar- ters with a stunning master bedroom and en suite bathroom and three further bedrooms. The elegant style of the interior design was achieved with Baufritz’ top of the range materials including walnut parquet, natural stone flooring and a bespoke designed kitchen. Windows and doors are finished in a light grey, while the saddle roof is furnished with grey roof tiles.
The build was constructed as an eco-friendly, low-energy house using non-chemical natural materials for healthy living. All the windows are triple-glazed and the shell is 100% biodegradable. A large photovoltaic array, coupled with a ground source heat pump, reduces energy usage.
