Debbie Pae built an attached annexe for her mother while self-building her own home

Debbie Pae ( shown) bought a bungalow with a view to undertaking a renovation project but her plans then changed radically. “After living there for two years, and having done little more than decorate, we discovered my mum was in the throes of dementia and I began having to spend more and more time at her home, 10 miles away.” It soon became clear that Debbie’s mum would benefit from living with her. “We realised the answer was to demolish the bungalow and build a new home with a self-contained annexe attached,” explains Debbie. The main entrance hall separates the main house from the adjacent single-storey annexe.
