DESIGN DETAILS
Whatever buying route you take, there will be finishing touches you’ll need to consider that will add to your costs. Some of the items you can choose to buy direct from the bathroom company or plumber/contractor if you opt for that route, but you can buy them separately, or will need to if you’re going down the DIY route. Here are six design details to factor into your budget...
LIGHTING
Consider directional lighting, task lighting and low-glare fittings hidden in skirtings for nighttime use, to create the right ambience from day to night. The IP44 Swan Neck wall lantern in brushed chrome 35, pictured, is from Iconic Lights, £35.
WINDOW DRESSING: BLINDS
Roller blinds can be a simple and unobtrusive way to preserve privacy in your bathroom, like this Manhattan example from PT Blinds.
FLOORING
Vinyl flooring is a good option for a bathroom like this Monochrome Bold Weave patterned tile vinyl flooring, £9.99/m2, from Flooring Superstore. Other good choices include natural stone tiles, porcelain and ceramic, rubber flooring and linoleum.
TOWEL RAIL/RADIATOR
For a bold splash, opt for a dramatic vertical radiator in a dark hue like this Milano Aruba Black Vertical Designer Radiator, £219.95, from Bestheating.
TILING
The price of wall tiles differs considerably, as does the cost of laying them. These Mermaid’s Garden porcelain hexagon tiles, £23.76/ m2 from Hyperion Tiles will be more labour-intensive to lay so do bear this in mind when budgeting your bathroom.
MIRROR
This LED option, the Roper Rhodes System 1200mm, from Sanctuary Bathrooms, is ideal for grooming and matches the width of the vanity unit.
