Window and door design meets modern tech

The Residence Collection combines good looks with the latest insulating technology, for stylish windows and doors that keep your house warm and energy bills down

Acting as a portal between the intimate indoors and open outdoors, windows and doors can transform a home, self-build or renovation. Casting light through its glass, windows and doors can make a room feel much airier and more spacious, ultimately allowing a room to feel less confined between its four walls. Not forgetting, of course, the aesthetic results which can transform a house into a home to meet owner expectations, whether it’s a traditional Victorian style or modern industrial vibes.

While design is a crucial aspect of windows and doors, something that is proven by The Residence Collection’s timber alternative designs and array of 26 colours, functionality also has an important role to play. But what exactly does this mean? Of course, windows and doors must open and close, but we’re talking about the technology behind the modern design, otherwise known as U values.

Defined as a measure of thermal transmittance, U values are used to determine the effectiveness of preventing heat loss from inside a building. Measured in Watts per square metre, per degree Kelvin (W/M2K), this means that for every degree of temperature difference between the inside and outside of a window or door, the U value is equivalent to how many Watts of heat are lost. So the lower the U value, the better the insulation; this means that your home will be much warmer and less energy is required to maintain a comfortable environment in your home. Current regulations are in place for window manufacturers to ensure their maximum U values meets modern standards, and later this year, there will be changes to Building Regulations whereby a window’s U value mustn’t exceed 1.4 in all new builds and renovations.

Thanks to The Residence Collection’s modern technology, its systems already boast a U value of 1.2 with double glazing, and 0.74 with triple glazing, in addition to a certified window energy A++ rating. Driving the way forward for stylish yet sustainable living, The Residence Collection is where traditional designs meet modern technology, meaning that the aesthetics of a home don’t need to be compromised when choosing modern tech.
