Molly Freshwater, co-founder of Secret Linen Store, on designing beautiful bedding

-

As one of the founders of Secret Linen Store, my role is really broad. But, predominantly, I am responsible for our bed linen and bedding: designing it, sampling it and overseeing the production.

During a typical day at our south-coast head o!ce, I start at 8am with co"ee (of course) and then catch up with our warehouse and customer service teams. I then check stock levels with our factories and I might discuss new online projects or product ideas with my business partner and sister, Harriet.

Anything can inspire me, but I always love the colours found in nature. I also visit lots of trade shows and love shopping for clothes, which is o#en where I get ideas for colour combinations. I do look at trends, but try to tread with caution. Our ranges are stylish and timeless. You can buy many trend-led duvet covers, which can be lots of fun, but they quickly pass. We focus on creating bedding that you will still love in a year’s time.

I love working with my sister, Harriet. She’s in charge, and is far be$er at spreadsheets than I am, so we make a great team. Sometimes running a business can be di!cult, but it’s great to share the good times and bad times with someone that you trust and love... even when we argue about the colour blue!

This year, we’re introducing luxury 600-thread-count bedding in ink blue. It’s so stunning that I’m redecorating my own bedroom so that I can have it on my bed!

I always change my bed linen on a Friday, which Harriet and I disagree on (she changes on a Sunday). I have six pillows in two or three di"erent designs, as I love to mix up colours and pa$erns. I also have lots of di"erent duvet covers and I’ve just treated myself to our Blush Pink Linen cover, which looks great. I think how your bed feels is so important – it’s my favourite place to be.
