HOTEL ENDSLEIGH
Devon
This dreamscape of woodland, waterfalls and follies owes its charm to the vision of Humphry Repton, the last great landscape gardener of the 18th century. A successor to Capability Brown, Repton was commissioned by the 6th Duke of Bedford to create a garden for this cottage orné (decorated cottage) built in the early 18th century. The Grade I-listed house and gardens have been transformed by interior designer Olga Polizzi into an 18-bedroom hotel. Book a window table in the dining room to drink in the views of the long border once gazed upon by the Duke of Bedford and his wife Georgiana. Many of the bedrooms look out on to the garden, and some the River Tamar and countryside beyond.
