As we layer up the blankets and the central heating ticks back into action a!er the long summer, at H&A we "nd ourselves in the mood to celebrate all the colour and fruitfulness of the new season. Whether it’s the collection of cosy, autumnal homes for you to escape into (each is brimming with covetable antiques, from upcycled treasures in Gayle’s Lincolnshire townhouse (p68) to authentic Georgian furniture in Andrew’s carefully curated London home (p94)) or our celebration of Morris & Co’s Sussex Chair – with its rush seating and rich dark wood – there’s plenty for lovers of autumn to enjoy. We also thought this was the perfect time of year to explore new ways to add atmosphere to your home with lighting (p78), and to look back at the history of Nordic design (p102). A!er all, who be#er to inspire us as daylight hours diminish, than the masters of hygge?

In our photoshoot this issue, we shine a spotlight on collectable !gurines from all eras. From the cool and kitsch to the classic, all deserve pride of place in our homes. We show you stylish and sophisticated ways to display them from page 45.

Finally, I hope you will take part in our reader survey this issue – we’d love to hear your feedback and you could win a £250 John Lewis gi" card if you do. Turn to page 126 to "nd out more.
