‘When we cleared a house in Wiltshire we were told that “Mum had some interestin­g le"ers”,’ says Joseph Trinder of Dawson’s, who unearthed a bundle of handwri"en le"ers by Beatrix Po"er. ‘They re#ected the la"er part of her life, devoted to farming in the Lake District.’ The $ve le"ers from 1942-43 were addressed to professor of agricultur­e, James Alec Hanley, whose advice Po"er sought. ‘They a"racted interest from the States and Asia before selling to a private London buyer.’
