Nestled in the rolling hills of south Devon, Amy and Shaun opened a unique treasure trove of old and new homewares, just waiting to be discovered, nds Katy Layton

After dreaming about the idea for many years, husband-and-wife team Amy and Shaun finally took the leap of faith to open their own store in a reclaimed shipping container in November 2017. With a love of Scandinavian and mid-century design, they offer an eclectic mix of vintage and contemporary pieces.

What is your background?

We moved to the area while I [Shaun] was still working as a chef for the Royal Navy. Amy has worked for many small interiors companies and has been a stylist her whole career.

What will we find?

A varied collection of old, new, modern and rustic – including antiques alongside design-led pieces.

What’s your favourite item for sale?

A set of archive drawers that were salvaged from a Cornish museum. We completely refinished them and added a zinc top. Drawers always sell well for us and these are a strong-looking set that we’re sure won’t be here long!

Is there an item that you regret selling?

We had a 1930s hangar light made by GEC that was very striking due to its mirrored interior and hexagonal shape. We know we will probably never find another. We try not to dwell on things too much as there are always new exciting things coming in and we get to enjoy them all for a little while.

Where do you find your stock?

It’s a mixture of antiques fairs, private sales and local small businesses. We’ve quickly built up a network of contacts but we are constantly on the lookout for new suppliers – whether that’s for antiques or repeatable stock items. You’ll often find us driving through the night to stay ahead of the game while searching for treasures!
