Silence is golden…

Homes and Antiques Magazine - - ANTIQUES NOW -

A rare portfolio of nine engravings by influential French-American artist Louise Bourgeois has sold at Swann Auction Galleries in New York for $413,000. Entitled He Disappeared Into Complete Silence, and published in 1947 – two years after Bourgeois’ first solo show – it is one of only 19 known copies. Rooted in abstract expressionism and surrealism, the book reflects powerful themes that occupied the revered artist for much of her life, including childhood trauma, loneliness, fear, anger and sexuality. swanngalleries.com
