THE PEARSON SILVER COLLECTION
4TH – 15TH OCTOBER
For the !rst time, an exhibition of standout pieces from The Pearson Silver Collection will go on view. Devoted to post-war and contemporary British silver design, the world-renowned collection is coming to Sworders’ London gallery in Cecil Court, Covent Garden this month.
Made up of over 900 pieces by around 300 silversmiths, this is the largest privately owned collection of its kind, and includes Graham Stewart’s exquisite bee honeypot, James Dougall’s balloons, a skyscraper clock by Gerald Benney and Malcolm Appleby’s allusion box. The collection’s founder and curator, John Andrew, is on a mission to bring Britain’s contemporary silversmithing to a wider audience. ‘It may be our best-kept secret,’ he says, ‘that in Britain, smiths create silver objects at the highest level with exceptional cra"smanship and with an extraordinary standard of design.’
John is still amassing pieces, via auction and directly from contemporary silversmiths, sometimes commissioning them too. He has also set up The Pearson Silver Foundation to encourage and promote talented young silversmiths.
