THE OWL CABINET, 1904

Perhaps the most famous of Ambrose’s designs, this cabinet merges practicali­ty and beauty, with the distinctiv­e roundels of the top cupboards giving it an appealing owl-like appearance.

DECOR FABRIC, 1967

Described in a brochure as ‘the golden girl of Heal’s fabrics’, Royal College of Art graduate Barbara Brown produced many popular designs for the company, including this one, with its bold shapes.

ART DECO CHROMIUMPL­ATED DESK, 1930s

This desk by Heal’s Design Studio is both beautiful and functional, with its delicate eau-de-nil lacquer providing an aesthetica­lly pleasing companion to the simple tubular structure.
