Food FOR thought

While harvesting the last of summer’s bounty in the edible garden, look ahead and plant some winter veg to enjoy in the coming months. Great crops to plant in autumn include onions and garlic sets, plus the seeds of winter hardy spring onions, such as ‘White Lisbon’, and perpetual spinach. Young plants of Brussels sprouts, kale and winter cabbage can be planted, too – these are available from the garden centre if you didn’t sow seeds earlier in the summer.
