WHERE CAN I FIND FABRICS THAT WILL SUIT A SEVENTIES SCHEME?

Homes & Gardens - - ADVICE -

I’ve purchased an apartment in a Seventies building and I’d like to furnish it with a nod to that period. Are there any plain curtain fabrics used then that are still available now? EB, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.

A fabric much used for curtains in that period is hessian. Fabricuk, 0121 359 2349, fabricuk.com, has the Hessian fabric coloured jute cloth, W150cm, in 16 colours, £4.99m. Lush Fabric, 0151 427 9839, lushfabric.com, also stocks Dyed jute fabric coloured hessian in 16 colours, W150cm, £9.50m. As all these hessians are lightweight, they will need a colour-related lining. Weaves for curtaining in the Seventies often combined yarns to add interest. Scion, 020 3457 5862, stylelibrary .com/scion, catches the mood in its Plains Six book of 29 colours, which includes Moss, Gold (top) and Spice, 75 per cent cotton, £38m. Drapeable Egmont in wool/linen/viscose comes in eight colours including Cinnamon (middle), £95m, Marvic, 020 8993 0191, marvictextiles.co.uk.

Seventies colours mix perfectly in the wool Huckleberry Firefly (bottom), £199m, de Le Cuona,
