Tell us about yourself and your work?
I’m a sculptor and designer based in Sussex and work in that space between the fine and decorative arts, combining ancient and contemporary materials and techniques. This ranges from small single objects and stone vessels up to projects on a more architectural scale for both private individuals and trade clients. I love the world of Medieval and Renaissance Europe but also the aesthetic and art of later Japanese makers and artists. In my own work I’m always coming back to my twin passions of translucency and texture.
Can you describe your Instagram account?
I use it to show behind the scenes in the studio and new pieces or materials I might be working on. Hopefully it captures some of the labour and also the joy involved in taking raw lumps of stone, wood or polymer to the finished pieces ready to be installed in a home. For me, making always has a sense of excitement and discovery, a piece can really evolve as you are working on it.
Which accounts would you recommend we follow and why?
I find @the_london_list a source of inspiration for design history and some of the best writing on the design world, and I love @cthompsonroyds for awe-inspiring artistry in gold. Meanwhile @romainchancel seems to be living my dream life between Paris and Avignon exploring lots of abandoned chateaux, while @james.kerwin captures the most amazing derelict palaces and buildings. Lastly, I follow @galerie.chenel for all the incredible antiquities I dream of one day owning.
