Barry has Vivaldi back on song
Riders from both ends of the age spectrum make waves this week, while a top Scottish combination
return to form and the Central region gains an exciting new venue
JO BARRY was pleased to have her top horse Vivaldi V back on form at Morris EC, Ayrshire (22-24 July), writes Melanie Scott. The combination posted 76.83% in the advanced medium freestyle.
Jo has produced Vivaldi since purchasing him as a newly-backed four-year-old. However, the Rilke 14-year-old has been away from competition for more than two-and-a-half years. They made their comeback at Morris’ June fixture with an advanced medium double win.
“He is such a showman and loves to perform. He needs time to get stronger before aiming for a prix st georges (PSG) — I hope to aim for one by the end of the year,” said Jo.
Deeside Pony Club member Matilda Haley, 15, topped three mediums — including the freestyle with 75% — aboard Watch Me!
“I’ve just finished a new floorplan and decided to take a risk — ‘Gari’ loves to get his dancing shoes on. We now have our winter medium regional qualification,” said Matilda, who also has silver elementary and medium summer qualification with the Gribaldi 13-year-old.
Matilda’s mother, Emma, added: “It was worthwhile for Matilda to go further south and compete against different people at a bigger venue.
“They are riding in the elite rider dressage competition at the Pony Club Championships before travelling on to the under-25 championships at Sheepgate.
“This is Matilda’s first horse after moving on from a 14.1hh. He has extravagant paces and is lovely to handle — a complete saint,” concluded Emma.
