Chamonix beats the big boys
ALISON LUSCOMBE headed an elementary at St Leonards EC, Cornwall (27 July), on her home-produced 14.1hh Rosewater Chamonix, whom she bought as a three-year-old, writes Annabel Kerby.
“My daughter was only two at the time and so everyone thought I was mad. Chamonix’s always been on the back burner and has really only started to grow up over the past few competitions,” said Exeterbased Alison.
“It’s hard to compete against big warmbloods, but she rides like a little horse,” added Alison of the seven-year-old by
Gems FS Champion De Luxe.
“I recently bought her dam, whom I have put in foal to FS Champion De Luxe again, so hopefully I’ll have Chamonix’s full brother or sister next year.”
Former showjumper Sally Weedon won a novice freestyle with her Desert Moon nineyear-old Desert Storm, whom she bought 18 months ago.
“I’d never ridden to music until three weeks ago when Claire Deithrick put my music and floorplan together. I was so nervous in my first freestyle test at Colraine that I lost my way twice, but this time I was determined to remember everything,” said Sally.
Bodmin-based Sally, who is trained by Dominique Mills, works part-time helping homeless youngsters.
Claire Deithrick also helps Alexandra Reeves, who claimed an elementary silver at St Leonards on Marilyn Pilgrim’s seven-year-old Forever Florrie.
“They have also started eventing and finished their first affiliated competition on a score of 16,” said Alexandra’s mother, Kathryn.
