WILL FURLONG and his 10-yearold grey mare Collien P 2 won this year’s under-25 three-day event championsh­ip at Bramham, and finished the season with sixth place in the CCI3* at Blenheim. Collien, who was bred by Jens Pax of Bad Iburg in Lower

Saxony, Germany, is registered Oldenburg, although the majority of her bloodlines are Holstein.

She is one of the first by the young sire Carentan, a son of the great Caretino who was a grandson of the French-bred

Cor De Bryère, who founded this Holstein C-line.

Caretino sired over 60 licensed stallions and jumping horses such as Caridor Z, Cristallo and Casall Ask.

Of interest to the UK is Collien’s dam, the Holstein mare Compita, who comes from the other

Holstein C-Line founded by the thoroughbr­ed Cottage Son through his Holstein son Corporal. Compita, by Carolus I (the sire of Clinton), was a half-bred, being out of the German thoroughbr­ed mare Beach by Lombard. She is also the dam of Gemma Tattersall’s ride Chico Bella P, winner of the CIC3* at Bramham in 2016. Chico Bella is by the Caretino grandson Chico’s Boy.
