LAURA RENWICK waited for what must have seemed an eternity for her first grand prix victory in Vilamoura and finally succeeded after 79 previous wins. Last weekend, she added another grand prix to her CV with a stunning performance from the final round of this year’s champions tour.

Jamie Gornall (Carsten) and Harry Charles (ABC Quantum Cruise) settled for lower placings in the jump-off, so last-drawn Laura carried Britain’s hopes. She and Bintang II made everything look easy to beat France’s Reynald Angot (Symphonie Des Biches).

This was the fourth worldranking win of the tour for Laura and her gelding, who was bred by the Bleekman family.

“I gave him last week off, so that’s two shows running where he’s won a world-ranking class and the grand prix. He’s been truly phenomenal,” said Laura.

The other British riders were also on fire. Chloe Aston won all three five-year-old classes on Magic Chanti and added a 1.40m win with Amigo T. Harriet Nuttall (Silver Lift) headed a 1.35m speed and Lance Whitehouse won a class on the seven-yearold Argento stallion Bazento. Charlotte Meikle won a 1.20m on Ronaldo and 15-year-old Flo Norris (Darling HDH) triumphed in the one-star grand prix.
