Mother-daughter rivalry proved fruitful for Alex and Sally Hardwick at Brook Farm.
Alex was on striking form, posting consistent plus-73% novice wins on her mother Sally’s Glasgow, a seven-year-old by Uphill. She also finished second to herself on her own Decurio five-year-old Danubio, in front of her mother in third, before swapping places in the second novice.
“My mum and I were neck and neck for second and third in the two novices, me on Danubio and she on her lovely 17hh Dance On Top (De Niro x Sion), who is a rising six-year-old. We love a bit of family rivalry as we both have a competitive streak,” said Alex.
“Glasgow has the brain of a pony and the power of a Ferrari. Nothing bothers or fazes him, he always has his ears forward with a constant happy expression, but when you put your foot down there is a hell of a lot of power,” she continued.
Alex also took both elementaries on Dr and Mrs Bechtolsheimer’s eight-yearold Polar Star III (Polarion x Landadel), collecting a day-high score of 77.75% in the process.
“Polar Star, or ‘Amazing
Albert’ as I call him, is just beauty and grace within a powerhouse body. The more you give him to think about the more he thrives,” concluded the rider.
Posting over 70% at advanced medium was Sarah Turner, riding Michele Wyatt’s Eduardo (Ehrenpreis x Silvio I).
“This was a great pre-regionals outing for us and completed our summer qualification at the same time,” commented Sarah.
“‘Ted’ has really matured over the past six months and is becoming so much more rideable in the ring now. I’m so excited about him and we’re hoping to progress to big tour towards the end of the year.”
