FROM JEANETTE BRAKEWELL

-

JEANETTE (right), who judged all six classes, said: “Southerly Roberts was a very effective rider even though she didn’t necessarily have the easiest rides. She kept riding forwards and positively without going over the top and was one of the few to get a clear round and that is so important, particularly in the bigger classes.

“Overall the standard of riding was pretty good but lots of people made similar mistakes. Often people ride with too short a rein so the horse’s neck is high and tight, and therefore he jumps the fence in a quick, but stiff, way. Lots of riders were also gripping too much with their knee and if they didn’t do that they would be able to look after their upper body better. Also, don’t forget to look early enough for the next fence — be better prepared.”
