WITH one final flourish on a fantastic opening week for the British on the Sunshine Tour, under the eye of performance manager Di Lampard, Jake Saywell (Havinia Van De Roshoeve) led home a one-two-three for his nation in Sunday’s grand prix.

Guy Williams took second on Rouge De Ravel with Peter Charles securing third spot on ABC Quantum Cruise.

With 13 through to the jumpoff, it was a battle for the €40,000 (£35,230) prize pot. Jake, 21, secured victory with the 11-yearold mare by Cicero Z by 0.65 of a second from France-based Guy, with the 2012 Olympic gold medallist 0.03 of a second slower.

“She’s a real trier and a great mare to have at this stage in my career,” said Jake, who is embarking on his first year in the senior ranks. “There are such good riders and horses here, so it means a lot to win.”

On the Big Tour, there were other wins for Harriet Nuttall (Silver Lift), Chloe Winchester (Ragga Muffin), Matthew Sampson (Dy Korette) and a double for Holly Smith (April IV), with Ireland’s Bertram Allen (GK Casper) also finding winning form.

Medium Tour victors included Ellie Hall McAteer with Dazzle II in Sunday’s accumulator, Simon Crippen (Atlanta VIII) and Georgie Crumley on Haifa OL, while in the young horse section Carron Nicol (Galerius) took top spot in the seven-year-olds.
