A STALLION IS ON SONG

-

DESPITE an unscheduled solo trip around the lorry park, the stallion Hallmark DS (Chip) pulled off a personal best dressage score of 20.5 to head BE100 section A at Moreton with Ireland’s Freddie Scala.

“He couldn’t believe his luck when he saw all the pretty ladies,” said Freddie, who rides Chip for Angela Hudson. “I had to whip off my belt and pin him down.”

The eight-year-old Irish sport horse by West Coast Cavalier, a son of the great Cavalier Royale, stands at Dalcotes Stud in Newquay and combines stud duties with competing.

“There’s a lot more to come with him,” said Freddie, a freelance rider, trainer and agent, who is now based in St Ives, having previously worked for various top riders both sides of the Irish Sea.

“Eventing from Cornwall is not ideal, but the set-up here is spectacular. We do all our fitness work in the sea — it beats paying a fortune to visit an equine spa!” he said.
