Guineas trials

-

CRAVEN BLITZ

MASAR, a New Approach colt trained by Charlie Appleby, was the pick of last week’s trial winners after he won the bet365 Craven Stakes by an astounding nine lengths from White Mocha.

He did have the benefit of a run on the dirt while wintering in Dubai, but this was an impressive win. While he may not improve huge amounts for it, if he runs like that again, he should not be far away back at Newmarket on Saturday week.

SUPPLEMENTARY DILEMMA

SOLILOQUY was another trial winner for Appleby when taking the Nell Gwyn. The Dubawi filly would need supplementing and the stable clearly like their other good filly, Wild Illusion, but Soliloquy may have forced her way into their 1,000 Guineas team — especially as Wild Illusion will go where it is softest.

DREAM TIME

DAN’S DREAM won the Fred Darling for Mick Channon whose yard is firing on all cylinders. As she is a charity horse with all her prize-money going to the Nicholls Spinal Injuries Foundation, Channon is keen to supplement her for the 1,000.

GARFIELD GOES FOR GLORY

JAMES GARFIELD is likely to be the mount of Frankie Dettori in the 2,000 after beating Expert Eye in the Greenham at Newbury. He will be a first Classic runner for George Scott.
